Scholar's FAQ SHEET
(Frequently Asked Questions)

Updated February 26, 2008

What airport do I fly into?

Make arrangements to fly into the Nashville airport (BNA). Please arrange flight times with Program Associate, R. Erin Ridings, erin_ridings@unc.edu.

Can I bring my spouse or children? Do they have to pay?

Children are not allowed, but your spouse can stay with you at the Loews Hotel. Your spouse will not be able to eat meals with the group.

Can I arrive a few days early? Stay a few days late?

Scholars can feel free to stay as long as they like at the Loews Hotel. SEPHLI will only pay accommodations for Tuesday, April 29 through Thursday, May 1. The program will begin first thing on April 30. If you would like to arrive early or stay late, please book your reservations through R. Erin Ridings, Program Associate, 919-966-0341, for the group rate.

Will food and beverage be covered by SEPHLI?

Food and beverage will be provided continuously from Wednesday morning until Friday lunch.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled? What if I cannot arrive by shuttle leave time?

Scholars will need to make their own shuttle/taxi arrangements to and from the hotel. Missing the May Retreat will result in Scholar's inability to participate in the rest of the twelve-month program. SEPHLI expects a strong commitment from all Scholars. Please contact Lisa Harrison, Program Director, if you cannot attend the May Retreat, 919-843-5559.

If your flight is cancelled, or delayed, please alert SEPHLI staff as soon as possible. Emergency contact telephone is the Berry Hill Plantation Resort, 434-517-7000.

How long will it take to get to the resort from the airport? Is a shuttle provided?

Travel time is 20 minutes to the Loews Hotel from the Nashville airport. Shuttles will not be provided by SEPHLI. Please consider contacting other scholars to arrange for group shuttles.

I live locally; can I commute to the on site program?

It is a requirement that all SEPHLI scholars, even those within commuting distance, stay on site with the cohort to avoid tardiness of any kind and build a more cohesive group.

Are personal charges, business services, etc. to the room paid for?

No. All incidentals will be covered by the scholars.

Is parking paid for?

Parking will be covered by SEPHLI.

Are vegetarian options available?

Vegetarian options are available. Contact R. Erin Ridings, Program Associate (T:919-966-0341, erin_ridings@unc.edu), by April 15, 2008.

Will food and beverage be covered by SEPHLI?

Food and beverage will be provided continuously from Wednesday morning until Friday lunch EXCEPT FOR DINNER THURSDAY, MAY 1.  THIS WILL BE A FREE NIGHT FOR SCHOLARS.
