Meet the 2011 Scholars

Jessica Owen Cooper, MPH

Jessica is currently a Health Educator and Child Care Health Consultant for the Yadkin County Health Department in Yadkinville, NC. She has been with the Health Department since march of 2010. In her position with the county, she has many roles and responsibilities.
In her role as a Child Care Health Consultant, she assists local child care providers in the maintenance of the health and safety of their child care facility and its children. In her role as a Health Educator, she is responsible for Maternal Health Education, Community Health through program planning, and School Health, focusing on the new Reproductive Health and Safety Education in grades 7, 8 and 9. She sits on and assists with many community boards and groups, including the Family Planning Advisory Board, which she co-chairs.
Recently Jessica has taken on a new responsibility with the Health Department and has become the Preparedness Coordinator. In the role, she helps organize emergency preparedness plans and communications, including leading the Local Emergency Preparedness Committee.
Jessica is a North Carolina native from Statesville. She has a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from UNC-Charlotte and a Masters Degree in Public Health from UNC-Greensboro. She currently resides with her fiancé in East Bend, NC. They enjoy camping, biking, kayaking, and home improvement projects.
