Meet the 2011 Scholars

Jennifer Anderson, MPH, MLS(ASCP)CM

Jennifer Anderson has been the Laboratory Supervisor of both the Blood Lead Laboratory and Prenatal Blood Typing Laboratory at the NC State Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh, NC since November, 2009. The blood lead laboratory tests over 10,00 specimens every month for elevated lead levels in North Carolina children ages 6 months to 6 years. The prenatal lab tests for the blood type prenatal patients in county health departments. She also works part time at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC in the Transfusion Services section of the laboratory. Prior to this, she worked as a Laboratory Improvement Consultant at the State Lab doing training and consultation for NC county health department, hospitals, and physician office laboratories. She volunteers in the laboratory at the Open Door Clinic of Wake County Urban Ministries
Jennifer completed BS degrees in Microbiology and Medical Technology at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID in 1999 and 2000 respectively. In 2000, she received her certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She completed her MPH in Public Health Leadership with an emphasis in Program Development at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in August, 2010. She currently serves as a Board Member for the NC Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
She was born and raised in Idaho but has lived in NC for the past 10 years. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, camping, reading, volunteering, spending time with friends, and keeping in touch with family. She resides in Cary, NC with her basset hound, Daisy.
