Lisa Holstein began her public health career in September 1990 when she became employed by the Boone county Health Department as an Office Assistant. She worked 16 years in the WIC Program for the health department seeing it from a paper system to an electronic system.
In February 2006 with the retirement of a fellow employee, she changed positions to the billing department. Along with billing, she was introduced to Public Health Threat Preparedness. Her duties expanded to Volunteer and Training Coordinator. As volunteer coordinator, she applied for and was accepted to establish a Medical Reserve Corps. She continues to lead the Boone County MRC today. She has also been recently trained as a back up Risk Communicator for the agency.
Although not completing her formal higher education, she feels she has learned much through the hands on experience working with the public and in the office. With her new position, she has been able to attend numerous conferences and trainings that have added to her practical education.
Lisa states from organizing volunteers to planning as of the recent H1N1 clinics, public health has become a prevalent part of her life.
When not working, she enjoys raising her three children with her husband. Reading fiction is her favorite hobby.
