Meet the 2008 Scholars

Barbara Hager
Chief, Cancer Control Section
Arkansas Department of Health

Barbara Hager is Chief of the Comprehensive Cancer Control Section at the Arkansas Department of Health, a position she has held for six years.  Her previous experiences include serving as Director of Health Education and Promotion at the Arkansas Department of Health and in health education positions in a local health department (Pasquotank Perquimmans, Camden, Chowan District Health Department), school of medicine (East Carolina University) and state health department (Adult Health Services) in North Carolina.

Barbara received her undergraduate degree from East Carolina University and her graduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She was a fellow with the Health Education and the South Central Leadership Institutes.

Barbara is the proud mother of two grown children, the oldest currently serving in the Peace Corps and the youngest attending college.  In addition to her full time job, she teaches part time in the Health Sciences Department of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

In her spare time, Barbara enjoys attending the symphony.
