Dr. Julie Casani
Preparedness Coordinator
North Carolina Department of Public Health
As the Public Health Preparedness Coordinator, Julie oversees the coordination and management of a system of the local, regional and state public health responders in North Carolina. Prior to coming to North Carolina in 2006, Julie served in the same role in Maryland for six years. Julie has a background in Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine, practicing for nearly 20 years in academic and community hospitals in Baltimore. She graduated from New York University School of Medicine, trained at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals and received her Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins in 1990. She has served on multiple local, state and federal advisory committees including her current appointment to the Homeland Security Science and Technology Advisory Committee.
Personal: Married to Frank Pierson, retired EMS Lieutenant from Baltimore County Fire Department and has 1 son, Chris, an avid Boy Scout and High School student. In her spare time she enjoys building and decorating dollhouses and miniatures and exploring her new home of North Carolina.
