Laura B. Landrum

Laura B. Landrum is special projects director
for the Illinois Public Health Institute. The Institute
is a multi-sectoral non-governmental organization working
to improve the Illinois public health system and was originally
funded by the Turning Point initiative of the Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation. Since 2000, she has served as coordinator
of Turning Point’s Performance Management National
Excellence Collaborative.
In addition to her Turning Point work, Ms. Landrum works
as a consultant to ASTHO (Association of State and Territorial
Health Officials) on state public health performance standards. Through
her work with ASTHO, Laura has worked extensively with states
that are organizing a performance assessment and improvement
processes.
Laura is an instructor of community health assessment and
policy development courses at the University of Illinois
at Chicago School of Public Health. Ms. Landrum began
her public health career in local health planning agencies,
with much of that work as director of planning for the City
of Chicago Health Systems Agency. She was with
the Illinois Department of Public Health for sixteen years,
where she served for ten years as Deputy Director. She
is now retired from state service.
Ms. Landrum is a Board member of the Public Health Leadership
Society and is currently serving as Chair of the National
Network of Public Health Institutes. Ms. Landrum has
a master’s degree in urban planning and policy from
the University of Illinois at Chicago.
